Review: Nivea Lip Butter Vanilla & Macadamia

I’m not really a lip balm person – I stick to my trusty multi-tasking Vaseline.  However, every now and then I need something more nourishing and this is why I bought the  Nivea Lip Butter in Vanilla & Macadamia.

Vaseline wasn’t working, I didn’t want balm and I didn’t want to spend a fortune on soothing my lips.  After some considered thought, I picked this up.

It’s creamy and moisturising. It’s great for using beneath lip colour or on its own. It has a light scent which is great for those like me who don’t like strong scented lip products.  It’s exactly what I need for winter as it protects my lips well and keeps them lovely and soft.

It has a light sheen to it which improves  the look of my lips without being greasy or glossy. It makes my lips look healthy and nourished, to reflect how they actually feel!

With all of these amazing qualities, it is now my favourite lip product.  Sorry Vaseline!

I attempted to do sale shopping and didn’t do too badly!  This month I bought:

No7 Skincare Collection

This was a Christmas gift set that was half price – I paid hardly anything for all of this:

  • Protect & Perfect day cream with SPF 15
  • Protect & Perfect night cream
  • Beautiful Skin hot cloth cleanser
  • Beautiful Skin eye make-up remover
  • Muslin face cloth
  • Hairband

I know I like all of these products as I have received this gift before!

I picked up a Boots Health & Beauty Magazine and it has a voucher for 100 points if you buy Botanics skincare.  I needed hand cream so I bought the Botanics soothing hand cream but it was before the validity date of the voucher!  I didn’t mind as the cream was reduced anyway.

When the voucher was valid, I went back and bought the Botanics Soothing Eye Make Up Remover. It is a dual remover which you shake to activate.  I tend to like this type of eye make-up remover so I’m hoping this will be a winner.

Finally, I bought the L’Oreal Skin Perfection 15 Second Miracle Cleansing Oil after seeing it on Erin Louise Hunt’s blog here.  I really wanted to try this and there was a discount on it in both Superdrug and Boots – it was a sign!

Latest in Beauty Glamour Edit Box Review: Maybelline Baby Lips Mint Fresh

Maybelline Baby Lips Minty Fresh

Maybelline Baby Lips Minty Fresh

The Latest in Beauty Glamour Edit Box was a good excuse to try Maybelline Baby Lips.  They’re not expensive but there were so many to choose from, including tinted balms, that it was easier to let someone else choose one for me!

Now, I’m not really into balms – I prefer my Nivea Lip Butter, Vaseline, or when I had it, Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Skin Protectant.  I also don’t like strong scents on my lips.

The Mint Baby Lips scent is perfect for me.  It has a hint of mint which makes it pleasantly refreshing rather than being overpowering.  I actually quite enjoy wearing it for the scent alone.

Packaging wise, as it is bright green, it is always easy to find in my bag.

As for how moisturising it is, I would say it is between Vaseline and the Nivea Lip Butter. Vaseline is more of a barrier and the lip butter is nourishing. Baby Lips feels like a moisturiser.  I know most people love this balm but unfortunately I am not that enamoured with it. It just doesn’t last as long on the lips as I want it to so it will not be a replacement for my lip butter. I now carry all three and apply the Baby Lips when I’m in the mood for mint!

It may be that my lips require the Intensive Moisture Baby Lips and I’m willing to give that one a try. If you are a balm fan, give this one a try – I’m glad I received it!

Latest in Beauty Glamour Edit Box Review: Balance Me Extra Care Radiance Facial Oil

Balance Me Radiance Facial Oil

Balance Me Radiance Facial Oil

I bought the Latest in Beauty Glamour Edit Box to try out the make-up products and Maybelline Baby Lips so the Balance Me Extra Care Radiance Facial Oil was really just a bonus.  And what a bonus it is!

I am a fan facial oils in general as I have dry skin and the box was well timed as I use oils in the winter only.

This oil is a pleasure to use.  It has a roller ball applicator so not only does the oil soothe my face, I get a massage on application as well. It also give me a radiant glow which made me instantly fall in love with it.  What more could I want?

Although this is an oil, it is not greasy and sinks into the skin like a dream.

I have no idea what is in it but it has a lovely scent which reminds me of pure olive oil and soothing herbs like eucalyptus.  It smells natural so it has to be good!

On its own it kept my face moisturised for most of the day but I felt it worked best and lasted longer beneath my usual day and night creams, which is how I would usually use facial oils.

I am very happy!

My Eye Make-Up Remover Journey

Eye make-up removers

Eye make-up removers

This will shock you all (or maybe not).  As a teenager, I used to remove my eye make-up with … baby oil!

You will be pleased to know that I have moved on from that!

I first discovered that there were dedicated eye make-up removers when I received a trial sized Lancôme Bi-Facil.  I love this dual action product but it’s the same old story – did I really have to spend that much to remove my eye make-up?

I then moved on to the Body Shop.  First I tried the Chamomile Mild Eye Make-Up Remover.  This was ok.  It felt like a cleansing water.  It got the make-up off, as long as it was not waterproof mascara.  It was gentle and soothing.  I then tried the Chamomile waterproof eye-make up gel.  It performed a little better than the water but I didn’t find it all that impressive.

I then moved on to No7.  The No7 Beautiful Skin Eye Make Up Remover is a dual liquid formula which you shake to activate, just like Bi-Facil.  This one has an oil-like liquid in it which I like.  Review to come soon but I will tell you now that Bi-Facil is better!

Continuing my quest to find a product that will work but will not bankrupt me, I tried Nivea Daily Essentials Double Effect Eye Make Up Remover.  I can’t decide whether I prefer this over the No7 one.  It works and I’m happy enough for the price I paid.  Again, it has a more oil-like liquid in the mix.

I now know that for me, I prefer the dual formula eye make-up removers, and I don’t mind the oil feeling as I have dry skin. Having said that, the removers feel moisturising rather than greasy.

Realistically, I think I will go back to premium brands for eye make-up removers.  The reason is that although all of the above will take off the make-up, sometimes a little bit of rubbing is needed which is terrible for the eye area, and it hurts! I had to rub the most with the Body Shop products so will give those a miss in the future.  I’ll probably still buy the No7 and Nivea dual formula eye make-up removers.  I will definitely buy Bi-Facil, unless I find another premium product I prefer. You can’t say I didn’t try!
